School Booktalks: The List - Part 2

Here's a complete list of all the books I took on my summer reading visits to the elementary schools!
        • The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger. Lots of good responses on this one, it's a fun story and has an intruiging cover. Good read-alike for Wimpy Kid fans.
        • Dragonbreath by Ursula Vernon. Everybody loves Dragonbreath. There are always shrieks of joy when I tell them there's more than one!
        • Storm Chaser by Chris Platt. A good new horse story for older readers
        • Reef of Death by Paul Zindel. I took this one to the middle school also. This is an old story, but freaky good!
        • Battle of the red hot pepper weenies by David Lubar. Very grabby cover - everyone wanted to know about this one.
        • Theodosia and the serpents of chaos. Percy Jackson meets Skulduggery Pleasant and becomes a Victorian girl who sleeps in a sarcophagus.
        • Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. He's a living, breathing, fire-throwing skeleton...and he's the good guy!
        • Sparky by Beverly Gherman. Finally, a biography of Charles Schulz!
        • Geronimo Stilton: Following the Trail of Marco Polo. Geronimo Stilton comics!
        • Pigs to the rescue by John Himmelman. I love this picturebook - it's really better for preschool, but kindergarteners love it too.
        • Cyclist Bikelist by Laura Robinson. The ultimate bike book
        • Shrek! by William Steig. New anniversary edition!
        • Chester's Masterpiece by Melanie Watt. New Chester picturebook!
        • Face to face with lions by Berly Joubert. This is a gorgeous series - we just got Lions, Manatees, and Butterflies.
        • Bone Handbook by Jeff Smith. To get really serious fans through the summer - comics, pictures, trivia, and more.
        • Star Wars Adventures: Luke Skywalker and teh Treasure of the Dragonsnakes. One of my new Star Wars comics series.
        • The Buddy Files: The case of the lost boy by Dori Butler. A new beginning chapter series with a dog detective. Really, really good.

        • Bad to the bone by Lucy Nolan. The Down Girl and Sit beginning chapter series is hilarious!
        • My Cousin the Alien by Pamela Service. Another one of my best booktalks and one kids always want to hear about. A great beginning chapter series.
        • Smells like dog by Suzanne Selfors. Haven't got a really good booktalk for this one yet, maybe after I get around to actually reading it...
        • Wolverine: Worst Day Ever by Barry Lyga. Text and pictures and comics!
        • Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventure. New manga series - lots of kids were enthusiastic about Pokemon, but doubtful about the "backwards" manga.
        • Attack of the fluffy bunnies by Andrea Beatty. Hilarious. Just hilarious. Perfect summer reading.
        • My Best Frenemy by Julie Bowe. I haven't got a really good booktalk for this one yet, but it seems to go fine just on the cover. I have ambitions to have a real bookclub and have Julie Bowe visit us someday....
        • Smile by Raina Telgemeier. Some kids had already read this and told ME how good it was!
        • Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce. Wimpy Kid with a different cover.
        • Violet Wings by Victoria Hanley. I need a better booktalk for this one.
        • I am going! by Mo Willems. New Elephant and Piggie!
        • Toy Breakers by Geoffrey Hayes
        • The big fat cow who goes kapow!
        • Freak Out! by Ginjer Clarke. All three of these are easy readers. Very popular.
        • Marsupials by Nic Bishop. Any book featuring an animal whose name is "Boodie" is going to be popular.
        • Saving the ghost of the mountain by Sy Montgomery. Great Scientists in the Field book.

        • Camp Out by Lynn Brunelle. The ultimate camping book
        • The Book that eats people by John Perry. Are your fingers clean?
Books no one asked about. Nothing wrong with them, there just wasn't time or they didn't get a good look at them.
