[Notes and Responses 11-14-12: This was a really, really good storytime. We had a large group (most of them late, but that doesn't really bother me and lots of them are coming from gym time). The kids sat through all the stories and several people remarked on how much they loved the craft. A good reminder that it doesn't have to be fancy to be good!]

Our early literacy skill was: Phonological Awareness, the ability to hear and play with the smaller sounds in words.
You can practice this skill at home by reading poetry and rhymes together. Look for books of poetry in the nonfiction section under 811 and for rhyming books in the picture books.
Our stories today included:
A house in the woods by Inga Moore
The very best bed by Rebekah Raye
Too tall houses by Gianna Marino
Who's that scratching at my door by Amanda Leslie
Our songs and rhymes included:
There was a little turtle by Vachel Lindsay http://tinyurl.com/b5v4goz
More stories and songs to try at home:
Try making up tunes to go with the poetry you read, or reading and singing songs together. Alan Katz has a series of picture books with silly song lyrics, look for them in the music books under 782.42.
Our take home craft is: Shapes
You will need: Imagination!
Arrange your shapes to create different things - then start all over! You can glue them in place and decorate them, or just keep reusing them.
Library events coming soon:
November 15, 3:30-5: Messy Art Club: Paper weaving
November 16, 10am: We Explore Healthy Snacking with Pattie Woods
