Swim Swim Sink by Jenn Harney

Is anything funnier than ducklings? Especially when they're all cute and fluffy in a picture book and you don't see the poop! A proud mother duck nestles down with her three eggs, watched by a friendly worm, and in brisk rhymes we see the eggs hatch. Out pop three downy ducklings and they hurry off to the pond.

"Three tiny ducklings jump right in. Splish! Splish! Splash! Swim. Swim... sink. WAIT. WHAT?" There's a problem here! The story goes off the rails as the third duckling, under the sympathetic eye of the friendly worm, tries everything to be able to swim. Finally, the clever duck figures out a way to swim with its family, even if it does sink. Cheerful, colorful pictures and simple, rhyming text (until it doesn't rhyme) make this another crowd-pleaser, along with Harney's earlier book, Underwear!

Verdict: A delightful addition for storytime and a great book to read before STEM programs on things that float.
