Chickenology: The ultimate encyclopedia by Barbara Sandri, Francesco Giubbilini, and Camilla Pintonato

This is part of a new series featuring different farm animals. It includes information about the care and keeping of chickens, different breeds, their history, keeping them as pets, and much more.

The art is a big draw (ha ha) for readers, full of color and detail. Like the book, it explores and branches off into all sorts of subjects. Learning about chicken eggs, kids will turn the page to see a page of different kinds of eggs, from a hummingbird to a shark. There are sketches of the different types of combs chickens show, and slyly humorous pictures illustrating some classic chicken folktales.

Although there are no sources or back matter, this is still a must-have purchase for any area with interest in farm animals. Kids from preschool up through elementary school will enjoy browsing through its pages and learning all sorts of interesting information.

Verdict: A delightful introduction to the world of chickens and fun browsing fare for young readers interested in farming and feathered friends.
