Paige Proves It: The Spooky Story by Amy Marie Stadelmann

I absolutely loved the first Paige Proves It book and am delighted that there is finally a sequel! In this story, Paige and her new friends tackle the mystery of a ghost. The story opens with a spooky story from Penn, that the Evergreen Street Music School is haunted! Paige disagrees, since she knows that ghosts are not a fact. They both ask Karla, who lives there, to confirm, but she's not sure either way. Naturally, Paige has to investigate the facts!

Paige carefully examines each incident and all the evidence, including mysterious thumps, cold breezes, squeaky doors, and even a ghostly figure in the attic! In the end, her scientific investigation proves there are no ghosts at the music school, but "Even when you have fully investigated, made clear observations, and proven the facts, some people still come to their own conclusions." and isn't that the truth...

This short chapter book is a fun blend of comics, text, and illustration. Paige and her friends, Penn and Karla, have hair in cheerful shades of purple, blue, and green, with a variety of skin tones and facial shapes. They do all have the same body type, skinny cartoon legs and arms and slim silhouettes, as do the adults. Paige's notebook of facts shows her carefully recording the evidence they find and her conclusions, and cute cartoons show various neighborhood people playing music and enjoying the music school.

Verdict: This is a nice blend of very mild spookiness, research methods, and a mystery. Pair with Hilde Cracks the Case for another another fun series teaching kids research methods through mystery solving. I'm looking forward to more titles in this series.
