Hank goes Honk by Maudie Powell-Tuck, illustrated by Duncan Beedie

Readers who like very dry humor and a definite anti-hero will love Hank the Goose!

"Sometimes Hank is impatient. And obnoxious." and he certainly is, interrupting the story, and the other animals, with constant loud honks, stealing food, and destroying things! But being obnoxious doesn't make Hank happy and with lots of focus on self-help books and mantras, Hank determines to change and be a good goose. And it works! For a little while...

The ambiguous ending will leave kids giggling in recognition of just how hard it is to be good and resist temptation, like popping a big, beautiful, blue, poppable balloon, and speculating on whether or not Hank manages to resist! The simple illustrations show Hank with an epic side-eye and expressionless face, as he goes from bad to good to giving in and back again... maybe?

Verdict: Perfect for fans of Jon Klassen and David Shannon, this is a fun read-aloud for kids from toddlers to elementary school age. Recommended.
