This week at the library: Fair Week

This is "break" week. It's the week of the County Fair, school starts after Labor Day, teachers are at in-service for part of the week. This year one of my staff is off for the fair (although they're actually not showing cows for the first time in many years!), another staff member took a day off but is focusing on projects the rest of the week, and our new aide, who will be working in the circulation department, doesn't start until after school begins so my remaining youth services aide is handling all the shelving, as well as coming in extra hours for another painting project in the Storyroom.

I already warned my staff that I wouldn't be available to help out (i.e. haul stuff up and down to the basement) as I've got a lot on my plate. I have my regular evening desk shift and am covering a second closing shift for a colleague, a large list of reports to write, and a lot of turn over in displays etc. to prep the children's area for the new semester starting the following weeks. School holds are also starting up again, and I've got a regular stream of requests to sort and pass on for circulation to pack - the teachers will probably pick up their own materials this week, since I don't think school delivery will resume until next week.
