Lemon Bird can help! by Paulina Ganucheau

This beginning chapter comic opens with Lemon Bird, a plump lemon with wings, trying once again to fly. She's disappointed when she fails again, but perks up immediately, going to the rescue of Pupkin, a blend of puppy and pumpkin. Yes, it is exactly as adorable as it sounds. Lemon Bird and Pupkin take an unexpected journey to town, where they meet another citrus bird, Keylime, who is mean to Lemon Bird but eventually apologizes and although still a little tart becomes friends. They all work together to get Pupkin back to the farm in time for the adoption day and Lemon Bird's kindness is spread among all the creatures and humans she meets.

A bright, colorful palette of colors introduce rainbow-haired humans and an array of animals crossed with fruit. The humans' speech is shown in a series of symbols, since the various creatures can't understand them, but their actions are clear and their love for their pets and companions shine through. Lemon Bird is determined to be a helper, even if she hasn't quite learned to fly yet, and their simple little adventures will delight lovers of the cute and adorable.

Verdict: Another great addition to the options for beginning chapter comic lovers, this one will especially appeal to readers who like cute little animals and funny blends of sentient food like Pea Bee and Jay or gentle fantasies like Princess in Black. Recommended.

Note: Baker and Taylor says this is not yet published, but my order is being fulfilled and it's available, so I think that's a mistake.
